It isn’t very comfortable to admit that I didn’t do much seasonal decorating before becoming a blogger.
Although I love creating beautiful and welcoming homes, there is also an inner part of me that is practical.
So I was torn. But spending a lot of money on decor each season didn’t align with my practical streak. Not to mention the fact that I would have to find a place to store all my new items when they weren’t in season. This didn’t seem like the best way to use my space.
Don’t get me wrong; some people love to decorate for every season, buy new items, and change their decor frequently. They have a passion for decorating and a gift. I believe they should embrace that passion and make the most of it.
In my case, I was looking for the perfect balance. How can I create a welcoming, beautiful home that reflects current seasons without needing to purchase (and store) tons of new decor?
A Whole House Uniform

While I struggled to balance my passion for decorating with my practical side, I thought about successful people like Mark Zuckerberg and Michael Kors. I also thought about other successful people who adopted uniforms that have made their lives easier and helped them make better decisions.
Every day, they wear the same thing to save brain space and ensure they are confident and comfortable.
Over the years, I have experimented more with the “uniform” concept for our house. It was a great timing decision, as we were only living in the house for a few months when I started. We still had to make many decorating decisions, so it seemed like a good idea.
After years of trying many different styles and colors, I returned to the same combination every time. It is soothing, inviting, and beautiful to me. These are all the things I seek when I am at home.
Benefits of adopting a whole-house uniform
It has been a joy to discover that this strategy has brought me more success than expected.
Simple Decorating Tips
It ensures that every room in my house will reflect my style. I don’t have the luxury of guessing if things will work together. I know because I’ve done it before.

I try to buy one large piece when I purchase something new. This gives me a more streamlined, cleaner look than buying smaller pieces that might look cluttered.
Minimizing Clutter
My spaces are less cluttered because I don’t have to keep as many decorations around.
Because I am committed to my “uniform”, I was able to donate or give away items not fitting that aesthetic. This freed up space in the house and allowed people to use our items in their homes.
Streamlining Seasonal Decoration
I also solved my initial problem with seasonal decor by using the uniform.
Instead of trying to use traditional color schemes for different seasons, like Christmas and Thanksgiving, I’ve just kept with the colors I love in my home and added seasonal touches.
